Malcolm mentioned to me this morning about moving this back over to our main test account and increasing the stakes again. However at this time im still a little reluctant to do this as I would like to guage how often .. if ever we are going to get a losing streak like we did a week or so ago as that really hit hard and proved that even with £2 stakes we can get burned unless we have some kind of stop loss limit. So for the meantime im going to continue at low stakes so that we can fathom out the longest losing streak and set our balance and stop loss accordingly

Done in the first few bets today , i made a slight mistake on the stop profit settings this morning so we actaully ended up winning 3 bets instead of 2

Well after yesterdays disaster. i ran the bot in paper trading for the rest of the day.. we had another loser which would have made it 4 in a row and then 2 winners ..so had we had sufficient money in the account to cover it we would have been ok.. although the liability did get pretty scary.

So from today i have gone back to the old account with £30.00 in it and 20p stakes and am going to run it like that again for a while.. at least then we can get an idea of how often these nasty losing runs are going to appear and what sort of bank it would take to cope with them.

So we start again 20p stakes (including bf commission) looking to make 40p a day on 2 wins

Well.. what can i say.. today was not a good day...

Seeing the longest losing run we have had so far of 3 losing bets in a row the staking completly wiped out our £109 bank :(

The odds seemed stacked against us today. After such a good run since we originally started testing this over a month ago it is sods law that once we up the stakes a little that we get burned.



I have left the bot paper trading for the rest of the day to see if we would have had the oppertunity to recover had there been enough in the bank to cover it

Couple of things today..

First of all a user pointed out to me that one of my settings was out of date in the instructions, I am no longer stopping at 2 wins per day i am working to a target profit so you do not need to have the "win streak out of sequence" ticked if you are following the settings here withno modifications :-)

Secondly I have decided to take the plunge and up the stakes to £2 (plus betfair commission). I have moved the system over to our main test account and will now be looking to make £4.00 a day.

We hit our target in the first 3 races today the 1st being a win , the 2nd was out of our odds range and the 3rd came 2nd giving us a win

A winner on the first race today.. then a loser then a winner on the next 2 bets bringing us into profit for the day.

We missed 2 bets due to a delay in the result of the 14:40 but both were outside of our odds range anyway so they would have been no bets.

I missed the start of racing today because i was running late at lunch time so i didnt load up the bot until just after 3PM, we did our profit in the first 3 races from the 15:15.. looks like the 15:30 at ayr was quite severely delayed hence the bot no betting on this race

I have upped the stakes to 50p for now and am including betfair commision, stopping after 2 wins per day.

In my previous entry I talked about the settings for the index system. Here i am going to explain in a bit more detail how the idea behind this system came about and give you a link to the current recorded results.

I have had some great feedback on this simple system, so great in fact that I decided to dedicate some time to formally recording the results which I will go into some more detail about later in this article.

The index system is based around laying the 2nd indexed horse on betfair at a certain time before the off.. Quite simple and easy to set up if you follow the instructions in my previous article which I believe was in the may issue of betting school.

Betfair index the order of their markets based on the tissue prices taken from the night before or the beginning of the day with the favourite as index 1 and so on. Now this index order generally remains the same throughout the day except of course as the prices change the runners fall out of rank order yet the runners remain in their indexed boxes.

So for example

Taking this into account the runner that is in index 2 as the 2nd favourite initially may well end up being in a totally different rank position by the time the race goes off.. yet it will still (generally) be in the 2nd indexed position on the exchange.

Here is an example of this on the exchange; this snapshot was taken at around a minute before the race went off.



So as you can see there is often a difference in the rank order at the time of bet placement, research has shown that it is often the top 3 that are moving the most so the matches are varying between the 1st 2nd and 3rd favs which I think is part of the key to the settings reasonable success because you are more often than not laying a different ranked runner for each race varying between the fav ,2nd fav and 3rd fav.

I have put together a spreadsheet detailing the bets placed and overall totals which cover almost 2 weeks of recorded results so far, this can be viewed here

These results are bets in GHB  running with no stop loss, from today (3rd July) i am going to start running the test looking for 2 wins a day

Recently we have been publishing some settings guidelines in our monthly newsletters and I thought it may be a good idea to havea running update on the performance of them from our testing. So for the first of this series i am going to tell you about the index settings that we published in the April newsletter.

Essentially this system comprises of some very simple auto select mode settings and is based around laying the 2nd indexed runner on the UK horse racing win markets.

Here are the most recent settings.

Bet on index is an extension of the bet on rank facility that allows you to look at the actual order of the market indexed on betfair as opposed to the rank

So for this example I am going to be laying the 2nd indexed runner on the horses and looking to stop at one winner each day

Here is how you can set this up

Profit/Loss stop



As this is one of the most important features we always recommend you set this to something relative to your stake amount.

The way that you can test this strategy is to stop at 2 wins per day, the key settings here are:

Stop after wins = 2

Win streak out of sequence = ticked

Staking tab

Please note that we do not endorse staking and these settings can be operated just as well without making use of this feature.



As this idea is based around a “stop at winner” type system you can use the simple staking options the key settings here are:

Staking = 2

Ignore race if PL not settled = Ticked

We strongly recommend that you use the staking option wisely and only to levels that you are comfortable with, if you are not happy with using staking it can be disabled by setting the staking box to 0.

The key setting here is the start betting TTS which is set to 10, this will start betting 10 seconds before the race starts

Here we set up our stake value and odds range



As I have advised above we have been testing with small stakes and recommend you do so also.

The key elements here are the stake = 0.20 (variable)

Odds range = 2.00 – 6.00

General bet settings



The key settings here are:

Bet by rank or index = Index

Bet on 2nd

This will set the GHB up to lay the 2nd indexed runner between the odds of 2.00 and 6.00

There are many other options you can try out with this depending on what you feel comfortable with, you can try:

Changing the stop after wins

Changing the TTS

We initially tested this system back in april but did not record the results for it, we have since come back to it following some great reports from readers of the newsletter and have begun recording full results which i will publish in my next entry.
