The prize lay system – ReviewAuthor – Eddie McclungPublisher – Sportsworld Publishing LTDReview by – Malcolm PettRecently we have been testing a number of systems published by Sportsworld publishing. The prize lay system is the first in a series of reviews I will be writing based on our findings.
http://www.prizelay.co.uk/Sportsworld publishing publish all of their systems in paper format and send them out in the post, so at least you do feel like your paying for something rather than the normal download you get with most systems.
After hearing a lot of good things about the prize lay system from some reputable reviewers I figured this would be a good place to start, and as we all know lay systems have been a preference of mine for quite some time.
The background on Eddies prize lay system is quite interesting, a long time member of sportsworlds racing investors club he entered it into a competition that they held offering a prize for the best performing system on a tipping phone line over a 4 month timeframe. The system went on to win him the first prize with a tidy £8,734 during the competition period.
Upon reading the system rules, Eddie makes it very clear on how to make your daily selections from the racing post and in the latest version issued after December 2008 he has adapted the selection process to suit the new racing post web site.
The Selection process is laid out well and I found that it would take me around 15 minutes each day depending on the number of races to filter out my selections. Giving me on average 3 - 4 selections per day. Eddie also operates a telephone support line for an additional charge where you can obtain the tips direct from him.
And now for the resultsWe tested this system in the office inputting the daily selections into Grey Horse Bot, this allowed us to stick to the systems max odds of 7/1 (8.0 on the betfair exchange) and also to ensure a no bet if less than 8 runners were running at the off. We could also make use of the TTS (time to start betting) function to ensure our bets were placed at optimum times.
We started running the selections on the 2nd March 2009 and up until today (27th march) am showing a clear 17.3 points up and that is not including the 6 selections I have put into today’s bot.
There are two interesting points to make here.
At the time of publishing this article Darren Power from the betting school also announced his test had shown a 24pts profit.
After talking with Darren we found he had more bets than we had but that was because we had been using GHB to make the bets and he had been using the results from SP instead. So we had a few less bets where the BF price was greater than the maximum 8.00 allowed on Betfair, but SP was showing 7/1.
Also interesting is that another popular reviewer had tested the system in February announcing £191 profit at £25 level stake bets (approx 7.64 pts) even after having a bad start to the month.
As with any laying system you will of course get losers, what I always look for when running a test is how long the losing runs are and at what prices they are matched at.
Out of 33 bets matched using GHB we had 3 single losers at a rough average of 4.0 on each losing bet, with the longest run of winners being 19.
Looking at the results that come with the prize lay system we were having an average month and the price of 4.00 seems to be pretty average for a loss as well, but as you know with averages this could mean losers that are a bit higher or lower, do keep that in mind
After having some conversations with Eddie and sending him the settings for Grey Horse Bot he has sent me back a glowing report on running the daily selections using the bot and he is now using the bot himself. As a result we have published the GHB settings document to all current and new customers who purchase the system through sportsworld publishing.
Rounding up.
At level stakes this the prize lay system appears profitable but you will have some days where you wonder, it has suffered some days of having 3 and 4 losing bets in a row in the past, but it does always recover at level stakes.
I wouldn’t suggest you use a staking plan with this the prize lay system, the prices are to high for a start (even with the 7/1 ceiling) and so even 2 losers in a row could cause some serious damage if you are carrying over loses.
By looking at the results you should take your current bank and use between 3 and 5% as your stake (I recommend 3%). As your bank increase so will your stake. With around 2 to 3 selections a day you should be enjoying quite a return after a couple of months even starting with a small bank.
I don’t often recommend systems but I feel as long as you are not stupid with your stakes and you except that you will go backwards sometimes then this really does appear to be a system that could make a profit.
And finally after talking with Eddie on many occasions you know he really is on your side. He has been very helpful in helping us to get the correct settings for Grey Horse Bot and we have even started to test in-running to see if we can pick up some selections that were to high before the off.
* We finished April: 20.27pts up.
